Cold seal films do not require heat for the lamination process. The films are coated with pressure sensitive adhesive and laminate to the paper or other material as the sheet is run through a laminator with cold or only slightly warm rollers. One big feature of these films is that the laminates are particularly durable in outdoor situations where they can have a life of up to three years. They are also particularly suited for laminating materials or inks that are heat sensitive. In most situations the clarity of the laminate is not quite as clear as heated laminating films. However as the most common application for cold seal film is large scale graphics or outdoor banners and posters this is rarely an issue.
Cold seal film or Pressure sensitive film has a permanent solvent acrylic adhesive which is why they are so durable for outdoor use and exposure to sunlight.
The surface laminating films are generally only available in widths of 1040mm and greater as the main use is wide format work. Four surface finishes are available: Gloss, Satin, Matt and Crystal Finish. The Crystal film has an textured effect surface and is also available in 800mm widths.
In addition to the pressure sensitive surface laminating films we also supply cold seal mounting film which is film with durable pressure sensitive adhesive on both sides for mounting printed work on board materials.
